Leaon Morss Obituary

89 a resident of the Care Center of Abingdon, died at 11:57 am Sunday, August 20, 2006 at the Care Center. He was born on July 20, 1917 in Persifer Township, Knox County, IL to Ray and Madge Reynolds Morss. He married P. Elaine Donaldson on November 1, 1943 in West Palm Beach, FL. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Tom (and Jessie) Morss of Peoria; one granddaughter, Gina (and Bill) Fischer of West Peoria and two great grandchildren, Noah and Kylie Fischer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather Forrest Wills, a daughter, Connie Rae Morss and one brother, Eugene Morss. He graduated from Gilson High School in 1936. He served in the Army from 1943 until 1946 and was a surgical technician at the 166th General Hospital in Le Mans, France during WW II. He worked as a caster at the former Abingdon Pottery for over 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed dancing and listening to big bands. He also loved harness racing and attending the many local, county and state fairs. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, August, 23, 2006 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Eleanor Landon and Rev. M. Annette Faull will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Care Center of Abingdon.
