Logan A. Oakley

Logan A. Oakley, 25, of Alexis, Illinois formerly of Galesburg passed away at 9:31 pm Sunday, April 24, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1996, in Galesburg the son of John and Connie (Cravens) Oakley.

He is survived by his parents, John and Connie Oakley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brother, Dylan (Hannah Luthy) Oakley of Chicago; paternal grandparents, Jack and Dorothy Oakley of Galesburg; maternal grandmother, Tova Cravens of Katy, Texas; Uncles, Brian Cravens of East Moline, Illinois and Alan (Renee) Cravens of Katy, Texas; Aunt Julia (Tom) Komanieki of Somonauk, Illinois, and two cousins, Holly Cravens of Fairfax, Virginia and Nicole Cravens of Bryan, Texas. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, James H. Cravens and faithful companion, his dog, Katrina.

Logan was born and raised in Galesburg where he always had a posse of friends. They enjoyed being very active including skiing, scuba diving and BMX biking. From an early age you could find Logan at skate parks and especially Skate Church in the Quad Cities.

He graduated GHS in 2014 and moved to Colorado Springs, with his family that summer. Logan had a strong desire to serve his country since he was a young boy. He served in the United States Army as an Allied Trade Specialist from 2015 to 2020. He made lifelong friends along the way and his sense of duty and work ethic earned him awards and recognitions. He was stationed with the Big Red One at Ft. Riley, Kansas and in Seoul, South Korea. While being in Asia he had the opportunity to import his dream car, a right-hand drive Nissan Skyline (2F2F Fans know) which opened more friendship opportunities at the car meets in Kansas & Colorado and was his most favorite hobby.

Logan returned to Colorado Springs after his DD214 just as the COVID lockdown was in place and he felt the desire to move back to his hometown area where he could be close to family and his best friends. He was proud to purchase his home in Alexis where he could entertain his friends, play Xbox with his distant former battle buddies, and begin his civilian life. With his love of cars, he was immediately employed at Galesburg Nissan as a service technician. His Skyline was not a fan of country roads, so they eventually parted ways.

He was so excited to start his dream job at Alexis Fire Equipment as a welder-fabricator. Although he had not been there long, he felt good to be back doing what he loved most and with good people.

His close friends will tell you that Logan was an amazing son, grandson, brother, and friend. He enjoyed spending his time hanging out with friends, snowboarding, golfing, grilling, and making people laugh. He always knew how to bring joy to others. He made friends through his journeys and created thousands of stories along the way. In fact, they

could write a very entertaining book of all their adventures; the condolences to his family and friends are evident of that. He was extremely selfless to everyone he met; always putting others before himself no matter the time of day or situation. Logan continued his selfless acts even in death, through Gift of Hope, he was an organ and tissue donor.

Logan was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, and Colorado Springs.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services with Rev. Dr. Pamela Marolla officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday at the chapel.
