Lora Stegall Obituary

101 of 100 S. Carlysle Ave., Abingdon died at 2:45 pm Monday, March 28, 2005 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg She was born August 27, 1903 in Hersman, IL to Fred and Fannie Curry Lenz. She married Martin Stegall on January 22, 1927 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death January 11, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister. Surviving are one daughter, Delores Keaton of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Mark Widmer, Mary Jo (Bill) Greytak and Nancy (Brad) Cripe; three great grandchildren, Josh (Becky) Richie, Billy Greytak, Jr. and Terry Cripe; five great-great grandchildren, Alexander, Emily, Nick, Max, Josh Richie, Jr. She attended Hedding College in Abingdon and Western State University in Macomb and taught school in Oak Grove. She later worked at the former Blue Bell Mfg. in Abingdon for 14 years and then worked in the accounting office of the former Abingdon Pottery for 10 years. At the age of 50 she went back to school to become a beautician and operated a beauty shop in her home for 35 years retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, monitor and secretary of the church board. She was a member and past president of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary, past member of the PTA and past Girl Scout leader. She volunteered at the Abingdon Nursing Home for five years as a Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Abingdon Jolly Grandmothers Club and volunteered at Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was an avid quilter and had quilted over 700 lap quilts and donated them to several senior homes around central Illinois. . Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. M. Annette Faull and Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to John Mosser Public Library or her church.
