89, of 300 N. Jefferson St., Abingdon, died at 8:50 PM May 15, 2007 in the Care Center of Abingdon. She was born on July 6, 1917 in Monmouth, IL the daughter of Owen L. and Julia Sellers Conard. She married Rufus "Red" Lloyd Bond, Jr. on April 7, 1946 at the Monmouth United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2001. She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Bond of Castle Rock, CO and William L. Bond of Kirkwood, IL; one daughter, Elizabeth A. (and Rod) Grusy of Elizabethtown, KY; one brother, B. Carl Conard of Rockford, IL; one sister, Maxine Humphrey of Bartonville, IL, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons; a niece and a nephew. She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1936 and later from Brown's Business College in Galesburg. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for 7 ½ years at L.T. Hall & Sons Ford Garage in Monmouth and later owned and operated Bond Electric in Abingdon with her husband, retiring in July of 1973. She has been a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church since 1949. She was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a member and past president of Chapter BB PEO and became a 50 year member in 1999. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Pottery Club. She helped organize and was a charter member of the Abingdon Junior Women's Club. She helped organize and was a past president of Delta Sigma Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi in Monmouth. She was also a member and past president of the Monmouth Women's Club. She had lived in Monmouth, Abingdon, and at Little Swan Lake in Avon, IL. Memorial service will be 2:30 PM Saturday in the Abingdon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2:30 PM Saturday at the church. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Community Hospices of America. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
