Lula Hull Obituary

99 of Abingdon died at 2:10 am Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was born on May 4, 1908 in rural Warren County, a few miles west of Abingdon, IL. Lula was the seventh in line of the eight children of Abner and Chloe Sigman Courson. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including her nephew Gerald Goodman of Galesburg whom she helped raise, and several great nieces and great nephews. Though Lula had no children of her own, she was close to the children of her brothers and sisters and will be sorely missed by those who knew her as their beloved Aunt Lula. Lula married Ellis Hull and lived in Abingdon for all of her adult life. She worked at the former Brass Factory in Abingdon for over thirty years and retired from there when the plant closed. She enjoyed the flowers she raised and took care of, and also enjoyed watching the birds the she fed in her backyard. She spent a great deal of her time reading the papers, magazines, and books from the library. She leaves a special thanks to the ladies at the John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon for continuing to provide her with reading materials even after she could no longer get in to pick them up. She had also been very active in bowling in her earlier years. Graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the John Mosser Public Library, 106 W. Meek St. Abingdon, IL 61410.
