Lyle P. Allen

78 of 704 N. Front St., Abingdon died at 7:09 pm Monday, April 7, 2008 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on January 22, 1930 in Floyd Township, Warren County, Illinois to Ray and Junie Courson Allen. He is survived by his children, Sharon (and Danny) Boyer of Rapatee, Jerry Allen of London Mills, Terry (and Virginia) Allen of Abingdon, Julie Allen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joy (and Bruce) Hillery of Gainesville, FL and Chris (and Jennifer) Allen of Winterset, IA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Harley (and Violet) Allen of RR Roseville; two sisters, Ruth Purchase of RR Abingdon and Doris Dopp of RR Galesburg. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Leo, Marion, Russell, and Troy and two sisters, Ila and Ada. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a past member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. He had worked at Briggs Manufacturing in Abingdon and later at Gale Products in Galesburg. He also owned and operated Lyle Allen Feed Supply for several years. He was a farmer and enjoyed working with livestock. His hobbies included fishing and hunting and spending time in the outdoors. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post #381 or a charity of the donor's choice.
