Marianna Pica Tafuri

91 of Abingdon died at 2:58 pm Monday, May 18, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center ER in Galesburg. She was born on July 27, 1917 in Sant' Arsenio, Italy to Arsenio and Margherita (Greco) Pica. She married Mario Tafuri on April 30, 1955 in Sant' Arsenio, Italy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters and brothers. She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was a seamstress and worked for Joe the Tailor retiring in 1985. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was a life long Roman Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary and was also a 3rd Order Carmelite. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 12:45 pm Friday, May 22, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Father William Miller will be the Celebrant and Father Deus-Dedit B. Byabato will be the Concelebrant. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Mass Offerings may be made in her honor.
