Obituary
Marilyn Jean Olson, 95, of Galesburg passed away at 9:23 pm Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born October 1, 1927, in Galesburg, the daughter of Oscar and June (Smith) Olson.
Marilyn graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945 and Iowa State University, in 1949. She taught at W. Union, Iowa, trained for Iowa State University in Marshall City, Iowa, Marion, Iowa, Delaware City, Iowa, Ames, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa as a Home Extension Economist. She moved to Galesburg in September 1985.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Craig and Karen Olson of East Galesburg, Illinois and several grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Francis, Oscar Jr. and Max Olson.
Marilyn was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, Businesswomen of America, FISH, and Cottage Corner. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and quilting. Marilyn was a faithful member of the First Lutheran Church and their Deborah Guild.
Marilyn wishes were to be cremated. A burial will be held at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Treasures or the Galesburg Public Library Foundation.
