90 of 208 N. Maple St. died at 3:40 pm Thursday, May 3, 2007 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. He was born on September 15, 1916 in Abingdon, a son of Alex and Assunta Formicola Sabetti. He married E. Bernice Stegall on April 28, 1946 at Fort Scott, Kansas. She preceded him in death on October 1, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Silvio Sabetti and Ralph Sabetti. Surviving is a son, Dr. Joseph Sabetti, O.D. of Winchester; a daughter, Rosemary (and John) Lewis of Peoria; a sister, Mary Reynolds of Abingdon; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren: a special friend, Bertha Carr of Abingdon. Mario graduated from Abingdon High School in 1934 and had lived in Abingdon all of his life except while serving in the Air Force Signal Corps during WW II. He was an active member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon for over 60 years. He worked for his parents at the family store, Sabetti's Food Market for several years and later owned and operated it from 1962 until 1971. He then became a meat inspector for the state of Illinois from 1971 until his retirement on December 31, 1982. He also served on the Zoning Board for the City of Abingdon and served as an election judge for several years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. He was devoted to his family and to helping people. His hobbies included gardening and working with his computer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father William Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the Rosary service at 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
