Mark Johnson Obituary

43 of 100 W. Sanitary Road died at 3:50 pm Monday, June 22, 2009 at his home with his family by his side following a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Mark was born on May 16, 1966 in Peoria, IL, a son of Charles and Carol (Townsend) Johnson. He married Teresa Drawyer on July 20, 1991 in Kewanee. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Nathan and Cody, both at home; his parents, Charles and Carol Johnson of London Mills; a sister, Julie (and Steve) Nell of London Mills and his grandmother, Winnie Townsend of London Mills. Mark was preceded by his paternal grandparents, his maternal grandfather, Carl Townsend and by an uncle, Don Townsend. He graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1984. He then served in the US Navy in Norfolk, VA from 1984 until 1988, obtaining the rank of machinist mate petty officer 2nd class. He then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb graduating in 1991. Mark worked as a manufacturing engineering manager at Heat & Control near Galesburg for 16 years. His hobbies included hunting, cars and tractor pulls. He was a member of the Abingdon Road Knights car club. Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Military rites will be accorded following the service by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Nathan and Cody Johnson Education Fund, which will be established at the Abingdon Banking Center.
