Mildred Lewis Obituary

86 of 498 W. Brooks St., Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died at 8:43 am Friday, January 23, 2004 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born on February 17, 1917 in Lexington, KY to Levi and Mayme Hurd Rowlett. She married Wendell E. Lewis on October 31, 1954 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1986. Surviving are three sons, Don (and Kay) Kinyon of Galesburg, Jack (and Linda Cook) Varnold of Galesburg, Gilbert (and Linda) Lewis of Maquon; three daughters, Linda (and Larry) Schreffler, Joy (and Richard) Morris and Wendy Poland all of Galesburg; one brother, Roy (and Sonna) Rowlett of Hamilton, IL; two sisters, Jean Rowlett of Hamilton and Helen Mary Harvey of Keokuk, IA; 18 grandchildren including a granddaughter, Kim Pringle who was raised by Mrs. Lewis, 18 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sons, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and five brothers. She operated the former Maid-Rite restaurant in Abingdon for 10 years, worked at the former Lakeview Roller Rink in Galesburg for 5 years, worked at the former Travel Lodge and retired from the Howard Johnson Hotel in Galesburg where she was head of Housekeeping. She was a past member of the Abingdon Auxiliary Police Department from 1970-1986. She was member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 Auxiliary in Abingdon. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Abingdon. Rev. Raymond McLaren will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 é
