Miss DeVora E. Arnett

Miss DeVora E. Arnett, 72, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 9:09 P.M. Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Allure of Lake Storey, Galesburg.

She was born November 27, 1949, in Galesburg to David Charles and Clara Jean (Smallwood) Arnett, Sr.

Surviving are two sisters, Lois (and Isaac) Jones, III of Des Moines, Iowa, and Roberta Arnett of Denver, Colorado, and two brothers, David C. Arnett, Jr. of Des Moines and Raymond Arnett of Galesburg, and nephews and nieces, Cyron Arnett, Shawn Arnett, Marshall Arnett, Denise Arnett, Matthew McGregor, Meshia Jones, Lacey Kay May, David Arnett, Illinois, Dario Arnett-Jones, and Tevin Teel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gloria Arnett, her sister, and Mercedes Arnett, her niece.

DeVora graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967 and attended Western Illinois University. She was an operator for the local Galesburg telephone companies for 39 years, where she became a valued and reliable team member.

DeVora loved to read the Bible and had an unshakeable faith in the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Galesburg. The Family thanks First Baptist for the love and support provided to DeVora.

Our lives are our journeys, but our destination is heaven. DeVora has reached her destination. During her journey she knew romance and heartache, success and failure, strength and commitment, but most importantly she knew love and kindness. The love for and from her family.

DeVora made many friends on her journey. And anyone who knew DeVora knew if she called you her friend, she loved you like you were family.

She also knew the love of great music. Her extensive vinyl record collection included Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and the Rolling Stones. It was nothing for DeVora to belt out a full verse and chorus from a song that addressed what troubled you.

DeVora is forever loved, forever missed, and forever in our hearts.

Cremation was accorded.  A celebration of DeVora’s life will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on November 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Galesburg.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
