Mr. Arthur L. Greenquist Obituary

Mr. Arthur Leonard Greenquist, 100, of Galesburg passed away at 5:30 pm Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.


Arthur was born January 22, 1925, in Galesburg, the son of Axel Theodore and Ida (Johnson) Greenquist. He married Edith F. Parke on November 5, 1943, in Gadsen, Alabama. After 70 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on July 18, 2013.


Arthur graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943 and married Edith before being drafted to the US Army serving in WWII. Arthur was a longtime member of both the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 and the VFW Post 2275.


Upon his return, Arthur worked with Alfred Bradbury as a carpenter for over 40 years. He was a talented woodworker by trade and enjoyed carving with wood. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping at Young Lake near Monmouth for many years. Art and Edith wintered in Florida for over 21 years until her passing. Arthur served as a Boy Scout Troop Master for Troop 204 and was a member of First Lutheran Church.


Arthur is survived by his son, Arthur “Ted” (Linda) Greenquist of Peotone, Illinois; his daughter-in-law, Andrea Greenquist of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren, Wendy Greenquist, Erik (Deanna) Greenquist, Troy (Shannon) Greenquist, Joshua Greenquist and Nissa (Matt) Denner-Greenquist and eleven great grandchildren, Kirsten, Joe, Austin, Lyndsey, Cameron, Andy, Anna, Caleb, Coltin, Allison and Skylar. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edith, his son, Steven and two sisters, Elsa Crowl and Lillian Stevens.


Visitation is scheduled for 9:00-11:00 am Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at First Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Dr. Pamela Marolla officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Edith, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
