Mr. Charles R. Thomas

Mr. Charles R. Thomas, 82, of Abingdon, Illinois died at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at his home, the Verna Place in Abingdon.

He was born on August 21, 1942, to John and Susan Thomas.

Charles spent his whole life in several institutions in Illinois including Howe Developmental Center in Tinley Park, Illinois, St. Mary’s Square Living Center in Galesburg, Illinois and the Verna Place in Abingdon. Charles had a positive outlook on life despite his limited abilities. His caretakers loved him and had these kind words to say about him. “Charles lit up every room he entered. He didn’t know a stranger, he loved everybody.” Charles was an avid Chicago Bears Fan. He was a gold medalist bowler in the Special Olympics. He loved going for walks and going to the park across the street from his home to watch the kids in the community play basketball. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Cremation will be accorded. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation scattering will be in East Linwood Scattering Garden, Galesburg.
