Mr. Clyde Landon Obituary

Mr. Clyde Keith Landon, 79 of Dahinda, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

He was born April 22, 1943 in Abingdon, the son of George Everett and Gladys Eileen (Todd) Landon.  He married Ethel May Tanner on May 11, 1969 at the Maxey Chapel United Methodist Church near Knoxville.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ethel; one son, Eric (and Rheta) Landon of Galesburg; twin grandsons, Noah and Aiden Landon; three sisters, Clara Gilbert of Abingdon, Georgia Davis of Galesburg, Nellie Landon of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, Ronald, Clarence, Fredrick, Lee, Rex, Terry, Everett, Lyle and Carl, and three sisters, Gladys George, Norma Roberts and Grace Magnison.

He grew up in Abingdon and attended Abingdon schools and later earned his GED.  He was an Air Force Veteran.  He worked at International Harvester/Navistar in Canton for 17 years and later worked at Admiral/Maytag in Galesburg for 20 years.  He had lived in Dahinda the past 45 years.  He was of the Christian Faith.  He loved to tinker, rebuild and repaint antique motors, making them look like new.  He loved to give people a hard time and his favorite reply was “Have a rotten day”.  He was especially proud of his twin grandsons and enjoyed spending time with them.

As he requested, cremation will be accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
