Mr. Danny LeRoy Shepherd

Danny LeRoy Shepherd, 74, of Galesburg died Sunday afternoon January 8, 2023, at Marigold Health Care Center. He had suffered from poor health for many years.

He was born on September 21, 1948, in Galesburg, Illinois to Fred and Inez (Weedman) Shepherd. On December 19, 1970, he was married in Bliss, Michigan, to Coleen Hawes. 

Surviving children are his much-loved sons, Daniel (Mariana) Shepherd of Australia, Christopher Shepherd, Jacob Shepherd, Caleb Shepherd all of Michigan, his beloved daughters, Holly Williams and Jessi Shepherd of Michigan and Megan (Carlos) Mesias of California, and his precious "daughters of the heart", Dayna (Daniel) Wright and Shannon Lai. He is also survived by his brother, Michael (Sandra) Shepherd and his stepsister Sonda (Steven) Laporte, 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He retired, after 31 years, from General Motors in 2008 where he was a forklift driver. As a young man he did various work such as a seasonal state park worker, a house painter and as a ski lift operator at a ski resort. He grew up in Galesburg, moved to Michigan for many years and then moved back to Galesburg in 2013. In the 90s he became a foster parent and helped many children as they passed through his doors. He enjoyed camping, riding golf carts in the campground, and just sitting around a campfire talking.

Per Danny’s request, cremation was accorded.  A committal service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Victoria Cemetery in Victoria, Illinois.  Hinchliff-Pearson- West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
