Mr. David Beversdorf Obituary

David D. Beversdorf, 83, of Galesburg, died at 8:24 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 23, 1939, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, the son of Rev. Edwin C. and Emily Mable (Fierke) Beversdorf.  He married Diane J. Yates on September 16, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Diane; children, Scott D. (Robin) Beversdorf of Owatonna, Minnesota; Andy E. (Roxanne) Beversdorf of Wichita, Kansas, and Becky E. (Steve) Veasey of Bourbonnais, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters in infancy.

Dave graduated from Concordia High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1957 and from Northern Illinois University in 1962.  After college, Dave was a school teacher at Auburn High School in Rockford.  In 1966, he went to work for the Chrysler Corporation in human resources and manufacturing supervisor.  In 1975, Dave took a job with the Admiral Corporation in Galesburg, where he continued to work until retiring from Maytag Corporation December 31, 2002.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  Dave was a tireless volunteer in our community.  He was president of the Booster Club at Carl Sandburg College, where he learned the art of raising money.  He took his skills to Galesburg High School, where he spearheaded numerous fund-raising efforts that totaled over $500,000.  He will be fondly remembered for bringing baseball greats, Joe DiMaggio, Pete Rose, Ozzie Smith, and others to baseball card shows as a fundraiser.  Those efforts awarded him with membership into the Silver Streaks Hall of Fame.  Over the years, Dave worked to raise funds for churches, mainly through organizing and promoting country gospel concerts.  He was a co-founder and volunteer with the Defenders of Freedom Veterans Home.  Dave also was a youth athletic coach for many years, was a Streaks Dad at GHS North, and volunteered with the Galesburg Rescue Mission.

Dave was an avid baseball fan and fisherman.  He and his sons enjoyed annual fishing trips throughout Canada.

Cremation will be accorded.  Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.  The church doors will open at 12:30 p.m.  There will be a time for visiting and fellowship at a luncheon following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
