Mr. Demetrio "Jimmy" Ramirez Carreon

November 6, 1957 ~ September 17, 2021 (age 63)

Mr. Demetrio “Jimmy” Ramirez Carreon, 63 of Abingdon, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2021, at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born November 6, 1957, in Estancia de Animas, Mexico, the son of Manuel Ramirez and Josefina Carreon.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Josefina Carreon of Mexico; his children, Jorge Ramirez and Jonyberto Martinez both of Athens Tennessee, Kyle Henderson of the state of Georgia, Ethan (Chelsie) Carnes of Peoria, Alma Martinez of Mexico and Mia (Nate) Sipe-Powell of St. Petersburg, Florida; nine grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.  He was preceded in death by his father.

For over 29 years Demetrio ‘Jimmy” served the community breakfast, lunch, and dinner as the owner of Town and Country Family Restaurant.  Jimmy loved his community and supported a variety of non-profits and organizations throughout the years, especially the men and women in uniform.  Jimmy grew up in Zacatecas, Mexico.  He started working at the age of 12 in a soap factory to provide for his younger siblings.  He left Mexico at the age of 16 to better support his family.  While in the United States he lived in Chicago, IL, Galesburg, IL, and finally settling in Abingdon, IL.  An immigrant, Jimmy was proud to call Mexico and The United States of America his home, living in the United States for over 45 years, he lived the American dream.

He loved music, newspaper comics, movies, Mexican soap-operas, and the ocean.  His proudest moment in life was walking his daughter, Mia, down the wedding aisle.  He was proud of all his children and grandchildren and loved each one deeply.  He was a staple of the town, and everyone knew him, and he knew everyone.  Most people will remember him sitting at the counter, reading his paper, enjoying the company of those around him.  He was loved by his employees, his community, and his family.  He will be remembered as a hard worker, a devoted father, a quiet and gentle spirit, and a proud member of the community.  He loved to workout, spend time with his family, and occasionally play the guitar.

Cremation will be accorded.  To celebrate his life, his children will receive family and friends from 4 pm – 6 pm Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St., Abingdon, IL 61410.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
