Mr. Donald D. “Don” Jacobson, 84, of Altona, Illinois died 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born August 19, 1939, in Galesburg to Raymond and Helen (Nelson) Jacobson. He married Sharon I. Bellamy on August 12, 1961, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2021.
Surviving is a son, Donald (and Chrissy) Jacobson of Elmwood, Illinois, two daughters, Marquie Smith of Altona and Penny (and Paul) Leafgreen, Jr. of Altona, six grandchildren, Natasha Emery, Krishonna Smith, Amber Leafgreen, Andrea Leafgreen, Rachel Jacobson, and Cameron Jacobson, and four great grandchildren, Rozalynn, Myles, Lyric, and Karma. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don graduated from R.O.V.A. High School in 1957. Along with farming his whole life, he was the Walnut Grove Road Commissioner, worked at Andrews Implement in Altona, and Gateway Co-Op/River Valley Co-Op in Galva, Illinois. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona and was the Assistant Fire Chief of Altona for 35 years. Don enjoyed playing cards and games and going to the casino. He was an avid sports fan, especially watching the Kansas City Chief or Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkey Women’s Basketball Team. He was an outdoorsman who liked fishing, mowing his yard, cruising the timber in his Kawasaki Mule, or just listening to country music on his patio. His true love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the chapel. The burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Altona.
