Mr. Donald M. Swedlund

Mr. Donald M. Swedlund age 93 of Galesburg, Illinois. passed away on December 27, 2024, at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, Illinois. Donald was born April 12, 1931, in Galesburg, the son of Ralph and Lillian Swedlund. He married E. Joyce (Nelson) Swedlund at the Altona Lutheran Church on November 5, 1950, in Altona, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2021. He is survived by two sons Jim (Karen) Swedlund of Monmouth, Illinois, and Joe (Terry) Swedlund of Allen, Texas, and two daughters Kathleen Perry of Elgin, Illinois, and Angela (Doug) Frank of St. Charles, Illinois. He was the proud grandfather to 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Don was raised on the family farm near Galesburg and farmed with his son until he retired from all farming duties in 2015. He attended Galesburg High School (1949). Through the years, Don was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Galesburg, serving as a choir member, church board member, and on various committees. He also served on various agricultural boards and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. In his younger years, he enjoyed theater and was an active member of the Galesburg Prairie Players theater group.

A private family memorial service will be held at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel in Galesburg on January 4, 2025. Burial will be at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 591 Galesburg, Illinois 61402-0591.
