Mr. Dwight Mannon Obituary

Mr. Dwight E. Mannon, 76, of Abingdon, Illinois peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at 1:23 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2023.
He was born December 1, 1946, in Galesburg, IL to Gaylord and Catherine (House) Mannon.  He married Jacquelyn S. Beck, October 25, 1969, in St. Augustine, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jackie, three sons, Greg (Michele) of Wake Forest, NC, Brad (Dedra) of Abingdon, Jeff (Amber) of Washington, IL, and sister, Christie Oyler, of Abingdon.  Dwight loved being a “Papa” to seven amazing grandchildren, Grace, Annabelle, Jillian, Elin, Brinley, Kara, and Chase.  He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Charles Oyler, Jr., and brother, Gary Johnson.
Dwight attended Avon Schools and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. For over 40 years, he loved driving a truck and seeing the country while working for Munson Transportation, American Freightways and FedEx Freight; retiring in 2015.  Those that shared the road with him knew him by his CB Handle “Hawkeye”.  With his wife Jackie sitting behind him, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle across the country and was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Club. Dwight enjoyed attending services at Coldbrook Christian Church. Dwight was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, took pride in everything he did, and gave detailed driving directions by mile marker.  Most of all, Dwight will be remembered for his love of his family.  He taught his children and grandchildren to never be afraid of a hard day's work and to always put family first.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home Chapel in Abingdon.  Funeral service will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the chapel.  Pastor Rick Warren will officiate.  Military Rites will be conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon.  Memorials may be made to the family, which will be donated to a charity, and should be addressed in care of Jeff Mannon.
