Edwin Martin Glass, 73, of Galesburg, died at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2020, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born October 9, 1946, in Galesburg, the son of George Calvin and Catherine A. (Holt) Glass. He married Belle Morlan on August 13, 1974, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Belle; six sons, Martin (Janina) Glass of Bettendorf, Iowa, Aaron McElroy of Plymouth, Illinois, Matthew (Charma) Glass of Galesburg, Benjamin (Dawnelle) Glass of Woodhull, and Casey (Sara) Glass and Damien Glass, both of North Carolina; five daughters, Heidi Austin of Iowa, Catherine (David) Fairbanks of Wyoming, Elizabeth (Patrick) Melton of Hanna City, Julie (Aaron) Underwood of Utah, and Melissa Glass of Wyoming; 30 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Dwight (Kathleen) Glass of Forreston; and three sisters, Gail (Richard) Galbreath of Oneida, Nancy (Tom) Case of Rock Island, and Rose (Larry) Reddick of Osco. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Cynthia Grace.
Ed was a welder at John Deere Harvester for 28 ½ years, retiring in 2007. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School. He went on to attend Carl Sandburg College and Blackhawk College. Ed was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also involved with Right to Life. Ed enjoyed collecting books, serving others, playing chess with his grandkids, reading scriptures, learning new languages, and gardening.
Ed served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the chapel. Burial with military honors will be in Ontario Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church Mission Fund.
