Mr. Eugene E. “Geno” Miner, 73, passed away at 11:13 am, Monday December 23, 2024, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville with his family by his side.

 Gene was born on August 30, 1951, in Galesburg, the son of Harris William and Irene Ann (Sokolowski) Miner.  He graduated from Abingdon High School and later went on to work as the custodian in Abingdon school district, retiring in 2022.

 Gene served on the board for the Abingdon Community Festival and was a member of Abingdon Jaycees, Abingdon Historical Society and Abingdon Booster Club. He enjoyed riding his bike and working on small engines, such as mowers. He was an avid Abingdon Commando fan attending all the school events.

 Left to cherish his memories are his four nephews, Nicholas Miner and Christopher Miner of Champaign, Illinois, Joseph Buckus of Indianapolis, Indiana and Nolan Miner of Peoria, Illinois; his three nieces, Sierra Miner of Galesburg, Antonia Terhune of Champaign and Stefanie (Kelly) Cubson of Colorado; his three brothers, Bill Miner of Abingdon, Gale (Susan) Miner of Champaign and Tim Miner; three sisters, Ronna Freed of Savoy, Illinois, Christine Miner of Champaign and Janice Miner of Galesburg. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Buckus.

Visitation is scheduled for 1:00-2:00 pm, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel with services to follow at 2:00 pm at the chapel.
