Mr. George D. Showalter, Sr, 88 of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 6:53 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born February 23, 1934, in Galesburg the son of Clifford and Nora (Wall) Showalter.
He married Charlette Wheeler in 1952 and they had five children. He later married Dorthy Malone and they had four children and was later blessed with one more child.
Surviving is his wife, Dorthy of Galesburg, five sons, David (and Terri) Showalter of New Boston, Illinois, Robbie Showalter of Galesburg, Scott (and Alicia) Showalter of Woodland Park Colorado, Matthew (and Morgan) Showalter of Galesburg, and Jason Showalter of Galesburg, five daughters, Debra Brasmer of Galesburg, Robin Wolford of Galesburg, Brenda Showalter of Galesburg, Mary Cassell of Galesburg, and Jennifer Showalter of Portland, Oregon, three brothers, John Showalter of Galesburg, Mike (and Pam) Anderson of Alabama, and Dave (and Chris) Armentrout of New Boston, five sisters, Ruthann Reardon of Potomac, Illinois, Fran Bradly of Potomac, Ellen Showalter of Dixon, Illinois, Leota Hensley of Abingdon, Illinois, and Becky Anderson of Prairie City, Illinois, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roger Showalter and William Armentrout.
George worked in the railyard for Burlington Northern Railroad for twelve years. He later for Maytag Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 33 ½ years. He retired in June of 1996. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing pool, and bowling. He loved spending time with his family. His children brought him such joy and happiness. George will always be remembered as a loving, giving, and caring man.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.
