Mr. Gerald F. "Jerry" Herring

Mr. Gerald F. “Jerry” Herring, 77, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 7:44 am Tuesday July 7, 2020 at his home.

Jerry was born June 18, 1943 in Peoria, Illinois the son of Howard and Mary E. Frahm Herring. He married Barbara Boen November of 1965, she preceded him in death. He later married Josephine E. Galloway Castor on November 11, 2007 in Williamsfield, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife, Josephine of Galesburg; his two daughters, Teresa Herring of Greenville, South Carolina and Marnie Herring of Galesburg; his sister, Marilyn Stanley of Peoria; five grandchildren, Aimee, Michelle, Jessica, Nathaniel and Scott Herring; two step grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Thorp and Paris Joe (Michelle) Swallows; two great grandchildren, Howard Herring II and Rita Garza; four step great grandchildren, Paris Joe Swallows III, Kaydence Swallows, Chloe and Ashlynn Thorp. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara, his son, Howard; four brothers, Bill Fuller, Sonny, Rick and Robert Herring and four sisters, Pat Terrell, Linda Welcome, Margaret and Donna.

Jerry worked in the coal mines of Victoria, Illinois for 10 years. He later owned and operated his own lawn care business for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He attended Williamsfield schools and was of the Methodist faith. Jerry had a passion for restoring antique cars and attending car shows in the area. Jerry was an outdoorsman, enjoying camping and fishing.

Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of his life will be held from Noon-4 pm, Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Williamsfield American Legion Post 371. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Family.
