Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Sprinkle Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” Leroy Sprinkle died May 5, 2020 with his son and daughter (in-law) by his side.  His grandsons had been with him prior to his passing.

Jerry was born in Galesburg, on April 19, 1936, the son of John and Florence (Sandburg) Sprinkle.  He lived most of his life in Galesburg and the surrounding areas.

He married Patricia “Patty” Bower on July 30, 1960.  Patty was the love of his life for just weeks shy of 48 years!  She preceded him in death in 2008.

With all things lost to him along his battle, at the end of his days what he had locked in memory was his “Patty’s beautiful green eyes” along with the fact “he’d dance with her again in Heaven one day”.

The other things most prevalent in his memory to the end were his St. Louis Cardinals and especially his grandsons, Garrett and Cole.

Also preceding him in death are his parents and a younger brother, Delbert Sprinkle.

Surviving Jerry also are his loving Son, Darryl, Daughter (in law) Dolly Sprinkle and their Sons Garrett and Cole Sprinkle. He is also survived by a Son, Michael (Sharon) Sprinkle and their children and grandchildren. siblings, Duane Sprinkle, Phyllis Anderson, Dale Sprinkle, and Larry Sprinkle.

Jerry graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954.  He worked at Admiral in Galesburg until 1965.  While working there, he enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserves, where he was a cook for four years of service.

He worked most of his life in construction, the better part of those years he worked for Cannon Construction as a concrete finisher.

In his later years, he was employed as a security guard at Maytag until his retirement.

Jerry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was known for always having a red Cardinals hat on his head.  Talks of those Cardinals with his dad will forever be THE fondest memories for his son and the things most missed.

He LOVED fishing and morel mushrooming, “when Patty’s lilacs were in bloom”, and was more than skilled at both.  Thankfully he “walked the banks” or the timber in his dreams long after his body wasn’t able.

Jerry could never sit still and will be remembered by the up and down of a recliner chair CONSTANTLY, until he couldn’t.  He also was known by many due to his many daily “rounds” to the neighborhood grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and many businesses he felt he had to check in on and socialize, while that was something he could still do.

Leaving him at 12:22 a.m., we knew he was safe and sound with his loving green-eyed Patty and that he WAS dancing with her in Heaven again!

Due to social distancing guidelines, no formal visitation will be held, but friends may pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Private family graveside services will be Friday in Ellison Cemetery in Smithshire.  Memorial contributions may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hills SW, Lillburn, WA 30047 (www.LBDA.org) or Alzheimer’s Association National Office, 225 Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (act.alz.org).  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
