Mr. Jack R. Redfern, 94, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:20 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at ProMedica Nursing Home, Galesburg.
He was born November 11, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa to William M. and Hazel A. (Brust) Redfern. He married Nancy K. Kidder, March 28, 1961 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death June 26, 1993.
Surviving is a son, Bill Redfern of Galesburg, a daughter, Debbie (and Gary) Johnson of Galesburg, a brother, Robert Redfern of Galesburg, a sister-in-law, Beth Redfern of Galesburg, four grandchildren, Ashley (and Travis) Hess, Jeremy Scholl, Joshua Scholl, and Matthew Reeser, and two great grandchildren, Taylor and Austin Hess. Jack is preceded in death by his two sons, Rick and Robbie Redfern, along with his two brothers, Bill and Jim Redfern.
Jack Graduated from Galesburg High School. He worked for Burlington Northern Rail Road as a Clerk for 46 years and retired December 3, 1989. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Jack loved cars and took pride in keeping his clean and polished. He was also a fan of NASCAR. His favorite drivers were Rusty Wallace and Dale Jarrett. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Jack enjoyed staying active and continued to ride his bicycle until he was in his 80’s. His smile and sense of humor will be missed by his family and those that knew him.
As Jack requested, cremation was accorded. A Celebration of Life will be 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Taco Hide Out, in Galesburg. Private cremation burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
