Mr. James R. Hensley Sr.

Mr. James Richard Hensley, Sr., 71, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away peacefully at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

He was born on September 9, 1953, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of James and Maryanne (Boyer) Hensley. He married Leota Jane Showalter.

Surviving him is a special friend, Carol Aplin; two daughters, Jandy Hensley and Jody Hensley; a son, James Richard (and Michele Owens) Hensley, Jr. two sisters, Lawanna Hensley and LaDonna Hensley; two aunts, Peg Thomas and Joanne Yoho; one uncle, Dan Boyer; Grandchildren, Jordyn, Logan, Brianna, and Cash, Great grandchild, Luca; and several cousins.

James attended Abingdon High School. He was employed at Koppers in Galesburg for 42 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and road riding. He raised deer, elk, and cattle.

Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Abingdon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
