Mr. James D. McCollum

Mr. James D. McCollum, 28, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 11:54 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his home.

James entered this world on September 29, 1996, in Moline, Illinois, as the son of Alvin and Penny (DeFrates) McCollum.

He is survived by both parents, Alvin and Penny McCollum, of Silvis, Illinois, his two sisters, Elizabeth (and Timothy Godsil) Watson, of Carbon Cliff, Illinois, and Kimberly (and Dylan Oppedahl) Watson, of Silvis, his grandmother, Viet DeFrates of Adair, Oklahoma, and a nephew Dexter Baker. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandfather.

He received his education from the Black Hawk Area Special Education District in East Moline, Illinois. He then moved into the Ryan's Court of the DD Homes in Galesburg. During his free time, James enjoyed playing basketball, tennis, and bowling. He loved to explore the outdoors and spending time riding in cars, buses, and trains. He enjoyed listening to music, especially his favorite band, the Bee Gee’s. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Ryan's Court for the compassionate care they gave and the friendship they offered to James.

Cremation will be accorded. A Private Committal Service will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Moline. Memorials may be made to the Ryan's Court of the DD Homes.
