Mr. James J. “Boomer” Reid, 71, of Galesburg, Illinois died 7:14 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born October 1, 1949 in Kewanee, Illinois to Richard E. and Mary Lou (Hagerty) Reid. He married Laura L. Schacht, January 3, 1976 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Joshua (and Kelsey) Reid of Channahon, Illinois, a daughter, Megan (and John) VanVleet of Monmouth, Illinois, a brother, Steven (and Christine) Reid of Galesburg, a sister, Mary (and Bob) Daves of Galesburg, four grandchildren, Addison, Natalie, Piper, and Logan, and four step grandchildren, Zackari, Kaleb, Rashawn, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Daniel Reid.
Boomer graduated from Costa High School in 1967. He attended Lincoln College, Lincoln, Illinois. He then enlisted into the United States Navy and served four years as a radioman. He worked for Dick Blick Art Supply Company for over 30 years and was a warehouse supervisor. He retired in 2004. He was a member of the American Legion post #285 in Galesburg. Boomer enjoyed bowling in area mixed leagues, playing softball in the Galesburg City League, and was an avid golfer. He was a Chicago Cubs and San Diego Chargers fan. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at the chapel. Rev. Martha Jean Fitch will officiate. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg with military rites by the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
