Mr. Jimmy R. Lee

Mr. Jimmy Roy Lee, Sr. 76, of Galesburg, Illinois died 2:48 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born January 9, 1948, in Charleston, Missouri to Robert Henderson and Queen Ester (Partee) Lee.  He married Leona Lee in 1966 in Gary, Indiana.  He later married Loistine Weaver on June 30, 1984, in Galesburg. 

Surviving is his wife of over 40 years, Loistine Lee of Galesburg, five sons, David L. (and Rosaland) Lee of St. Johns, Indiana, Jimmy R. Lee, Jr. of Galesburg, LeAndrew D. (and Yvette) Lee of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Michael D. Lee of Macomb, Illinois, and Tyrone D. Lee of Atlanta, Georgia, two daughters, Cherie L. Weaver of Galesburg and Sara L. Weaver of Galesburg, two brothers, Robert H. (and Lisa) Lee, Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana and Gregory T. (and Michelle) Lee of Gary, Indiana, three sisters, Shirley Pearson of Gary, Indiana, Brenda (and Pastor Frank) Wilderness of Indianapolis, and Michelle Lee-Smith of Gary, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tommy Williams. 

Jimmy graduated from Froebel High School in Gary, Indiana in 1966.  He then served his country in the United States Army from 1971 to 1976.  He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was stationed in Germany.  He was a signal maintainer for Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad for 20 years until 2002.  He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Galesburg where he taught Sunday School and was a trustee.  He was instrumental in purchasing the church on Brown Avenue in Galesburg.  He enjoyed all sports especially watching Notre Dame, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs.  He loved spending time with his family including his neighborhood family.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandpa.  He was always there with encouragement and loving care.  He often would share words of encouragement and wisdom to help the young deal with life. 

As Jimmy requested, cremation will be accorded.  A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Second Baptist Church, 1530 Brown Ave., Galesburg.  Rev. Kimberly K. Bonds will officiate.  Military Rites will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Church.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
