Mr. John S. Beasley, 77, of Galesburg passed away at 10:48 am Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
John was born August 21, 1944, in Eldorado, Illinois the son of John F. and Mary B. (Baker) Beasley. He married Karen Boydston in 1973 in Galesburg. He later married Mary Garrett on September 9, 1995, in Galesburg.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary of Galesburg; his children, Stephanie (Erich) Mueller of West Branch, Iowa, John T. (Brandy) Beasley of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Michelle and Gabe Wells both of Galesburg; his brother, James C. (Mary) Beasley of Roscoe, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kayli, Tavian, Veronica, Livia and Ridley; one great grandchild, Veronica; nephew, James R. Beasley and niece, Kathryn Ann Pomahac. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Nate Wells.
John graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962 and attended Southern Illinois University till getting notification that he was to be drafted into the military. He worked for Butler Manufacturing for a brief time till his entry to the US Marine Corp in 1965. John served as a Sgt during the Vietnam War in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign and Service Medals, the Combat Action Ribbon Good Conduct Medal. He also achieved the Rifle and Pistol Expert Badges.
John was best known for his time working at the Steeplechase Lounge and the Elk’s Downstairs Bar. He later attended school to become an over the road truck driver, working for Bertis Carlson and Crop Production for many years. John was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #894. John was an extremely patriotic individual; he loved the American flag and eagles that represented our country. John could usually be found visiting with his good friends at Harley’s Pub or sitting in his chair watching his John Wayne western movies. He wasn’t a man of many words, but he was a good friend and will be missed greatly.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Visitation will be 11:00-1:00 PM Wednesday at the chapel. Military Honors will be conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard. Cremation will follow services.
