Mr. Larry Smith Obituary

Mr. Larry Smith, 71, of Galesburg, passed away at 5:26 am Saturday, August 28, 2021, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. 

Larry was born on October 31, 1949, to Roy V. Sr. and Dorothy E. (Morgan) Smith, in Galesburg where he was raised. 

Larry is survived by his brothers Roy Smith Jr. of Wataga, Lavern Smith of Wisconsin, his sisters Loretta Woodside of Oneida, Dorothy Dewitt of Williamsfield, Carol Dixon of Galesburg, Carolyn Lawson of Galesburg, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Dennis Lee Smith. 

Larry had joined the U.S. Navy serving for six years before returning to Galesburg, working for the City of Galesburg in the parks department for 29 years. Larry loved to fish almost doing so daily and spent some time hunting as well. He had also gotten into woodworking, taking time to make toys and donate them to kids in need at both Safe Harbor and OSF St. Mary Medical Center. He had never taken credit for ever donating the toys, wishing to stay anonymous as he did so. 

Cremation will be accorded. A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday September 10, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Safe Harbor and OSF St. Mary Medical Center. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is honored to be serving the family.
