Mr. Leon G. Tice

Leon George Tice, 87, of London Mills, Illinois, passed away September 18, 2018 with family by his side.

Born October 30, 1930 in Galesburg, Illinois to Murel and Iola (Saverly) Tice, Leon married Donna Mae Brennan on June 15, 1952.  After high school Leon attended the University of Illinois until the death of his brother Edwin, then joined his father in farming.  Leon farmed in the London Mills area for many years before moving to Deerfield Beach, Florida in 1986, where he and Donna managed The Sea Club until 1999.  Leon was a member of the Illinois Air National Guard, Masonic Lodge #185, London Mills Community Association, and served on the Knox County Farm Bureau and Chestnut Township boards for many years.  Always ready for an adventure, Leon and Donna enjoyed travels across the United States, Europe, Canada, Jamaica, and the Caribbean.

Those who knew Leon knew he was a man of few words with a keen sense of humor.  He could joke with anyone and made friends wherever he went.  Even after a stroke in 2008 took Leon’s ability to communicate verbally his wit still shone through in his actions and gestures.

Leon is survived by his children, Don (Cindy) Tice of Bettendorf, Iowa, Diana (Doug) Fehr of Roanoke, Illinois, Rita (Mike) King of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Ray (Marci) Tice of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren with another due October 1st.  He was preceded in death by his wife, who died October 13, 2013; his parents; and his brothers, Marvin and Edwin; and sister, Jessie.  

The family would like to extend a big Thank You to the staff of Seminary Manor and Harbor Light Hospice for the friendships, care, and support they provided to Leon.

Masonic rites by Lodge #185 will begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the London Mills United Methodist Church.  Visitation will follow from 10 to 11 a.m.  Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. with Rev. Russell Rhodes officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in East Midway Cemetery.  In remembrance of Leon, memorials can be made to the London Mills United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is handling arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
