Mr. Lonnie G. England, 84, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Wataga, Illinois died 6:45 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at his home.
He was born January 15, 1938, in Galesburg the only child of George and Norma (Brodrick) England. He married Barbara J. Collins, July 5, 1958, in Knoxville, Illinois.
Surviving is his wife of over 64 years, Barbara J. England of Galesburg, two sons, Ricky (and Karen) England of Knoxville, Illinois, and Larry England of Galesburg, six grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Wesley England in 2003.
Lonnie graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957. He owned and operated the Shell gas station on the corner of Main and Chambers Street in Galesburg for about eight years. He later was a custodian for Galesburg School district # 205 for 25 years until his retirement. He worked at Lombard Junior High School then Churchill Junior High School. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and woodworking, but his true passion was working on cars.
Private Graveside services will be Friday, January 13, 2023, at Wataga Cemetery. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.
