Mr. Martin Levine Gustafson, 62 of Galesburg, passed away at 9:28 a.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born February 22, 1958 in Monmouth, the son of Elvin R. and Fay (Heck) Gustafson.
Marty is survived by his three children, Joe (and Katie Schofield) Gustafson, Heather (and Larry Randolph) Gustafson and Sarah Gustafson, all of Galesburg; 10 grandchildren, Carlos Hildago, Dezarae Gustafson, Junior Currie, Eli Gustafson, Ava Gustafson, Layiah Randolph, Carson Clewell, Noah Gustafson, La`Rae Randolph and Elena Gustafson; one brother, Michael (and Darci) Gustafson of Galva; one sister-in-law, Camee` Compton of Oregon, Wisconsin; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marc Gustafson
He graduated from Warren High School near Monmouth in 1976 and from Augustana College in 1980 with a Business Degree. He worked for Caterpillar and later worked as a computer programmer for the State of Illinois for 27 years, retiring in February of 2018. He was a collector of many things and enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. He also greatly enjoyed attending the Peoria Riverman hockey games with his children and grandchildren. He was loved by his family so much and will be missed.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy. A private family service will be held Monday with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Those wishing to attend the funeral “virtually” may watch the live broadcast at 10 a.m. Monday on the funeral home’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-1603336644037824. Burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery. A celebration of Marty’s life will be held at a later date when it is safer to gather.
