Mr. Norman Lee Mahnesmith

Mr. Norman Lee Mahnesmith, 77, of Knoxville, Illinois died 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, Illinois. 

He was born May 28, 1945, in Galesburg to John Victor and Ethel Mae (Miller) Mahnesmith.  He married Peggy L. Swanson, February 21, 1967, in Galesburg. 

Surviving are two sons, DuWayne Mahnesmith of Knoxville and Eddie (and Pam) of Knoxville, two daughters, Denise (and John) Bainter of Galesburg and Penny Mahnesmith of Galesburg, a brother, Kenny (and Dixie) Mahnesmith of Galesburg, a sister, Jeanette (and Sonny) Lucas of Wataga, nine grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Junior Mahnesmith, Owen Mahnesmith, Dave Mahnesmith, Jay Mahnesmith, Rollin Mahnesmith, Duane Mahnesmith, and an infant brother, Donald Mahnesmith, two sisters, Mary Hiatt and Myrna Moats, and a great grandchild, Cameron Abbott. 

Norm attended Knoxville Schools and lived in Knoxville most of his life.  He was an inspector of refrigerator cars for Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe Railroad for over 30 years and retired in May of 2005.  He enjoyed having drinks by the fire, fishing, music, and watching cowboy movies, especially movies with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. 

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service, Galesburg Chapel.  Graveside service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Rev.
