Mr. Raymond Kimbrough Jr. Obituary

Raymond Kimbrough Jr. (Johnny, John, Pop John, Papa John), was oldest of eight children born to Raymond Kimbrough Sr. and Gladys W. (Donaldson) Kimbrough on May 19, 1936, in Galesburg, Illinois. On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Raymond passed away peacefully in Modesto, California, at age 82, surrounded by loves ones.

Raymond served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959. In 1967, he moved his family from Galesburg, Illinois to Oakland, California, where he and his brothers owned several Chevron gas stations. One of Raymond’s favorite activities was working in his garden, and he loved to share the fruits of his labor with others. He was an avid Oakland A’s baseball fan and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Raymond was also a well-respected family historian.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Kimbrough Sr. and Gladys W. (Donaldson) Kimbrough; his first wife, Thelma (Peggy) Kimbrough (Yancey); and his three sisters, Nancy Kimbrough, Laura Ann (Kimbrough) Bryant, and Lois Kimbrough.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Ida Marmon Kimbrough from San Leandro, California; four children, Yvonne Mcjimsey from Salida, California, Michelle Kimbrough-Barr from Stockton, California, Gordon Kimbrough from San Francisco, California, and Denite Allicock from Katy, Texas; two stepchildren: Theresa Marmon from San Leandro, California and Anthony Marmon from San Leandro, California; three brothers, Elbert Kimbrough from Paterson, New Jersey, Albert Kimbrough from Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Kenneth Kimbrough from Alameda, California; and one sister, Patricia Coleman from Galesburg, Illinois.

His family legacy continues with his grandchildren, Norris Mcjimsey, Micanelle Franklin, Maurice Mcjimsey, Shaunita Allicock, Donald Dew, Brittney Threets, John Allicock, Samuel Fant, Joshua Kimbrough, Denisha Allicock, Matthew Franklin, Brandon Marmon, and Wayne Marmon, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
