Mr. Rex Harold Stegall, 96, formerly of Galesburg died at 7:09 am, Saturday March 21, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rex was born February 26, 1924 in Abingdon the son of Charles M and Nora (Brown) Stegall. He married Vernis M. Pratt on December 11, 1946 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd M Stegall, Charles Kenneth Stegall, a sister Doris Bushnell and nephews Rick Stegall and Bill Bushnell.
A graduate of Abingdon High School in 1942 he worked at Gale Products and retired from Illinois Power Co., now known as Ameren, in 1986, where he was a journeyman welder in the Gas Dept. Rex enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling. He bowled at Northgate Lanes for Pete’s AutoBody for many years and traveled around for the Pro/Am tournaments bowling with many champions of the day. He was especially proud of the three 700 series’ he had at Northgate.
Rex lived in Galesburg and Abingdon the majority of his life moving to Nevada after the death of his wife to be near his children, Connie Hale (Ken) Gallatin and Sonnie Shirie Samuels both of Henderson, NV and Brian (Linda) Stegall of Las Vegas, NV. He had nine grandchildren Jason (Amanda) Hale, Jared (Cherie) Hale. Sierra Samuels, Kenya Franklin, Lu (Holly), and Aisha Samuels. Kelsey, Vanessa, and Trevor Stegall. In addition he was very proud of his 11 great-grandchildren. Jamal James, Kayla Franklin Armstrong, Rollins and Caitrin Franklin, Makenna and Torian Samuels, Britta Farley, Xavier, Ivy, Macy and Sawyer Hale.
He valued his many lifelong friends, fellow golf partners and bowling teammates. He was loved by his family and will be missed.
Due to social distancing limitations related to the COVID-19 pandemic, friends and family may pay their respects with restrictions, from 11:30-1:00 pm Friday, May 8, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremations Service Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm Friday in the Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
