Mr. Richard, W. Stevens, 75, of Henderson, died Saturday January 19, 2019 at 12:16 a.m. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born May 6, 1943 in Galesburg to Warren C. and Nellie A. (Shay) Stevens. He married Janice Marie Huff on July 26, 1969 in Silvis, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Stevens, of Henderson, two sons Robert W. Stevens and John T. Stevens, daughter Barbara L. Stevens, two sisters, Peggy A.(Jim) McKillip and Beverly L.(James) Gray, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers in-law, Judy (Tony) DePaepe, Steven (Marina) Huff, Maureen Glendon, and Michael (Mona) Huff and several dear nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carol Spencer.
Richard was raised in Gilson and educated in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1961. Richard went to Western Illinois University and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1965 and his Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1969. Richard was an educator for District 205 in Galesburg for 38 years and retired in 2004.
Richard was a member of Henderson United Methodist Church, NEA, Henderson Village Board, was a Henderson Township Election Judge, and served as the Chairman of the HUMC Administrative Board and the Henderson Cemetery Board. He enjoyed playing the piano for his church and playing games with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2:00p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Henderson Cemetery. Rev. Jeff Uddin will officiate. Memorials may be made to the HUMC, Henderson Cemetery or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
