Mr. Richard "Dick" Barton Obituary

Richard J. “Dick” Barton, 95, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully with family at his side at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday (December 28,2021) in St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1926 in Galesburg, the son of Lee S. and Vada A. (Calkins) Barton. He married Dolores M. “Dollie” Barton February 26,1960, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2007.

He is survived by one son, Donald L. Barton of Galesburg; one daughter, Diane G. Norton of Limestone, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Barton of Galesburg; nine grandchildren; two great grandsons and four great granddaughters; and a sister Annetta Bowton of Abingdon.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rishey A. “Ricky” Carter; a son, Richard “Mark” Barton; two brothers, Forrest and Kenneth Barton; and two sons-in-law, Paul S. Carter and Richard L. Norton

He graduated from Galesburg High School.

Richard served in the Navy from 1943-1946. He worked for Brown Specialty & May Company then retiring after 25 years from Galesburg School District 205.

He was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church.

Richard loved to garden and work in his yard. He enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and friends. He was an avid bowler and loved to travel with his wife Dollie.

Cremation will be accorded.  There will be no visitation or service at this time.  Private family burial will be at a later date in the Galva Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is honored to serve the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
