Mr. Robert L. Masterson, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 3:50 pm Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
Bob was born November 21, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Edwin and Irene (Van Camp) Masterson. He married Sandra J. Carlisle on September 5, 1959 in Tipton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2020.
Surviving are his children, Deborah (Lou) Signorelli of Morton, Illinois, Brian (Jennifer) Masterson of Iowa City, Iowa, Suzanne (Severo) Pedroza of Orland Park, Illinois, Cynthia (Mark) Carrington of Channahon, Illinois and Kevin Robert Masterson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; his siblings, Dorothy Votroubek (William Gravert), Irene (James) Cepican, Anne Masterson, Joseph (Antoinette) Masterson, James Masterson, Stephen Masterson; his step-brother, Chester (Shirley) Masterson; his sister-in-law, Maryetta Masterson; fourteen grandchildren, Katie Adams (Kyle) Buell, Doug Adams (Angie Wilson), Nick (Meredith) Masterson, Emily Masterson, Mary (Joey) Puccinelli, Ben Masterson, Margaret Masterson, Olivia Masterson, Jessica Pedroza, Alena Pedroza, Rachel Papp, Casey John (Megan) Papp, Casey Lynne Carrington and Jason Carrington (Brittany Shafer) and three great grandchildren, James Masterson, Carter Carrington and Declan John Papp. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his two brothers, Edward and John Masterson, brother-in-law, Robert Votroubek, his sister, Mary Soto, his step-mother, Elda Masterson and his step-brother, Bruce Masterson.
Bob graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1954 and St. Ambrose College in 1964. He went on to work as the Knox County Zoning Administrator for over 30 years. Bob owned and operated for over 50 years, Masterson’s Papering and Painting. He was a member of the Galesburg Jaycees, Habitat for Humanity of Knox County, the Noon Rotary, the Exchange Club and was co-president, with his wife Sandra, of the GHS Band parents.
Bob was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He also had served as a Eucharistic minister and lector for the church.
Bob was a skilled artist and calligraphist. He enjoyed traveling for pleasure and also traveling to all of his grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, theatrical performances and attending all their Sacraments. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Bob was a huge fan of Entenmann pastries, pizza and chocolate ice cream. He always had to have two desserts and was known as, “Two Dessert Bob”. Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday January 27, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. William Miller officiating. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 am at the church by the Knights of Columbus. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited seating.
