Robert “Bob” Joel Waight, 78, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 7:07 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at home with his family.
He was born July 25, 1939 in Seaton, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Thomas and Helen Mae Gluba Waight. He married Carol Lee Brodie on October 1, 1960 in Monmouth, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 57 years; his three sons, Timothy Joel (Sonya) Waight of Galesburg, Michael Robert (Lisa) Waight of Morton, Illinois, and Daniel Jay (Nancy) Waight of Galesburg; three brothers, Tom (Erma) Waight of Sherwood, Arkansas, David (Rosie) Waight of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Gary (Mary) Waight of Cornelius, North Carolina; three sisters, Juanita (Ron) Carlson of Galesburg, Barb Hall (David Boegen) and Janeen (John) Davis both of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Robert (Lindsay) Waight, Elizabeth Waight, Samantha Waight, Brandon Waight, Gary (Tabitha) Swanson and Chris Swanson; and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Robert co-owned and operated J. Brodie Meats, Inc. for over 52 years. He graduated and loved the Alexis High School Class of 1957. He had lived in Alexis, Macomb and Victoria before moving to Galesburg. Robert attended the Faith Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club and several other antique car organizations. He enjoyed going to coffee and discussing politics. Robert often met great friends for lunch at his favorite places. He enjoyed walking his little dogs, Lucky and Lola. Robert especially loved spending time with his family and playing cards with his siblings.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Curt Lipe will officiate. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery.
