Mr. Roger Reno Obituary

 

Roger Lee Reno, 63 of Abingdon, passed away at 8:44 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield with his family at his side.

He was born March 29, 1956 in Galesburg, the son of Kenneth G. and Hazel C. (Lewis) Reno.  He married Deanna Hickerson on September 10, 1988 at Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Deanna, two sons, Jason (and Ashley Urbanik) Reno of Galesburg and Adam (and Alexa Allison) Reno of Abingdon; and one grandson, Zander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jack Reno, three sisters, Marilyn “Peg” Kinzer, Mary Sampson and Margaret Hueston.

Roger graduated from Abingdon High School in 1974 where he was a member of the Commando football and track teams.  He was also a member of the band “Shiver” in high school and still continued his connection with the band.  He graduated from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg in 1976 and later attended Western Illinois University, where he studied Athletic Training.  He worked for Azer Clinic in Galesburg as a Rehabilitation Aide from August 1, 1984 to August 8, 2012.  He graduated from Black Hawk College in 2012 with Physical Therapy Assistant Degree and has worked at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant since August 26, 2012.

He was a member of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge #185. While attending Black Hawk College, he served as Class President. His enjoyed woodworking and watching football with his sons.

Roger’s passion to help others continues as he was an organ donor and his wishes were fulfilled through the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network.

 Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel followed by Masonic Rites at 4 p.m.  The family will continue to celebrate Roger’s life with a Celebration of Life Service at 5 p.m. at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St. in Abingdon led by Rev. Scott Carnes.  Cremation will be accorded following the visitation with private burial of his ashes at a later date at the Abingdon Cemetery.
