Mr. Ronald A. “Rambler” Baumgardner, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born June 17, 1935 in Oak Hill, Illinois to his mother, Bertha Baumgardner. He married Sheryl Sampson in 1959.
Surviving is his fiancé of 22 years, Joyce Norris of Galesburg, a son, Ronald L. (and Patricia Ryden) Baumgardner of Galesburg, two sisters, Karen Schowgo and Joan Guilliams both of Peoria, Illinois, two grandchildren, Joshua Baumgardner and Erica Baumgardner, and two great grandchildren, Logan Baumgardner and River Lee Yard. He is preceded in death by his mother, a brother, Charles Fail and two sisters, Evelyn Colgan and Bernice Baumgardner.
Ron served in the United States Navy for eight years. He was an operating engineer in the Sea Bee’s serving in Yokosuka, Japan. He was a truck driver of Cedar Trucking Company in Galesburg for 15 years and retired in 1997. He enjoyed snow skiing, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed dancing and was member of area dance groups. He loved spending time with his great grandchildren and loved his dog, Mandy. To his grandchildren, “Juicer” and “Eeker or Princess”, he was everything. He would go above and beyond to help anyone but especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by many, but mostly his family.
As Ron requested, cremation will be accorded. No service is scheduled at this time but a “Celebration of Life” will be scheduled at a later date when social gathering can safely resume. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
