Mr. Thomas "Topper" Leroy Horaney, Sr.

Mr. Thomas “Topper” Leroy Horaney, Sr., 79, of Galesburg, Illinois died 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at his home.

He was born April 11, 1939 in Galesburg to William Louis and Mary Margaret Onderko Horaney.  He married Virginia Bogard in 1961 in Galesburg. 

Surviving is his long-time companion of over 40 years, Patricia Watson of Galesburg, a son, Thomas Leroy (and Susan) Horaney, Jr. of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, two daughters, Mary Margaret (and Darryl) Lee of Moline, Illinois, and Sally M. (and Karl) Stalcup of Trabuco Canyon, California, a step son, Greg Watson of Sharpeville, Ohio, a step daughter, Dawn Flickinger of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a brother, William “Bill” R. (and Millie) Horaney of Galesburg, two granddaughters, Haley Ann Horaney and Sophia Lynnea Stalcup, four step grandsons, Wade Watson, Justin Watson, Dakota Watson and William (and Michele) Maniaci, a step granddaughter, Isabella Maniaci, a step great grandson, Theo Maniaci and a step great granddaughter, Emma Purdy.  He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, George Horaney, Bob Horaney, Walt Horaney, Babe Horaney, and Jim Horaney and a sister, Christine Thurman. 

Topper served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960.  He then was a tile setter working for Cassini’s in Galesburg and then Bob Fundenberger.  He later was a superintendant for Rheinschmidt’s Contracting Company and retired in 2004.  He was of the Catholic faith.  He was a long time member of the Elks Lodge #894 in Galesburg.  He was a past member of the “Dew Dusters” golf league at Bunker Links Golf Course, Galesburg. 

Cremation will be accorded.  Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 1640 N. Henderson St. Galesburg.  Memorials may be made in Topper’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or the Elks Scholarship Foundation, Galesburg Lodge #894.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
