Obituary

Mr. Troy “TJ” Simkins, 42 of Abingdon, passed from this life at 5:15 p.m. Monday June 6, 2022, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg from injuries he received in an UTV accident that occurred west of Abingdon.

He was born September 5, 1979 in Galesburg, the son of Larry and Patty (Johnson) Simkins.

TJ is survived by his parents, Patty Simkins of Abingdon and Larry (Patsy) Simkins of Galesburg; his fiancé, Samantha Lewis Martin of Abingdon; his sons, Kruz and Keegan of Abingdon; his brothers, Johnny (Nicole) Simkins of Tremont and Chad Simkins of Abingdon; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

TJ grew up in the London Mills area and graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1998.  He later moved to Abingdon where has spent his adult life.  He worked as a Millman at Gates Rubber Company for the past 11 years.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his boys, his family, his friends and his dog, Sunny.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel followed by remarks led by Nicole Simkins and Angel Nordwahl.  Cremation will be accorded afterwards and private burial of his ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery at a later date.
