Mr. William "Bill" Bridger Obituary

Mr. William “Bill” Henry Bridger, 58, of Galesburg, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of November 3, 2023, at OSF St. Francis in Peoria, Illinois.

Bill was born on April 11, 1965 in Aledo, the son of George W. and Evelyn L. (Selser) Bridger. He was raised in New Boston and attended Westmer High School graduating with the class of 1983. After high school Bill enlisted with the US Navy where he served from March 31 of 1984 to March 31 of 1988 as a small diesel engine maintenance worker. He met Shirlene Husband and they married on December 11, 1993 in Galesburg.  In 1998 Bill got a job with Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg where he was still working until his passing.

He is survived by Shirlene; his two sons, Anthony Bridger of Stronghurst, Illinois, and Daniel Bridger of Galesburg. He is also survived by his two brothers, James “Jim” Bridger of Galesburg and Roy Meyer of Melbourne, Florida, as well as a beloved nephew, Jacob VanBebber. Bill is preceded in death by his parents.

Bill was an ornery man who had an infectious smile that would brighten anyone’s day and he could make a friend anywhere he went. He was a kind hearted man who was always taking care of those around him. Bill was always there to lend a hand, especially if it came to cars. He loved old cars, going to car shows and watching NASCAR. Another sport he enjoyed watching was football and was an avid Bears fan. In his free time, he also liked to play cards with his friends and family, even if he was caught cheating once or twice. Bill was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Cremation is to be accorded. A celebration of life is to be held December 1, 2023 at the American Legion in Monmouth, Illinois, 1110 North 11th Street, from 2 to 5 pm with military rites at 2:30 pm.
