Mr. William “Bob” Woodring, 81, of Galesburg, passed away at 6:40 PM on Sunday
October 15, 2023.
Bob was born on January 11, 1942 to William A. and Mary (Correll) Woodring, in Bremer County, Iowa. Bob is survived by his siblings: James (Shirley) Woodring, Andrea (Billy) Williams; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Woodring; and sister, Barbara Poe.
Bob was born and raised in Plainfield Iowa, graduating from Plainfield High School in
1960. He lettered in football, baseball, and basketball. He proceeded to further his education by attending the State College of Iowa for two years. Bob enlisted in the
United States Navy, serving his country honorably from 1963 to 1969 and obtaining the rank E-5, Petty Officer Second Class. During his time in the Navy, he worked primarily as a fire control technician aboard a number of submarines. After being released to inactive duty in 1969, Bob owned and operated C&F Electric for 15 years, and held a clerical position at Seminary Estates for over eight years. Throughout his life, Bob was known as an entertainer. His warmth and quick wit made him fast friends with everyone he met. He famously had a reserved stool at Duffy’s Tavern in Galesburg.
Per Bob’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. No services are currently pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Bob’s name.
