My dad, Bob Riggs, and Elaine, were first cousins. I have many fun childhood memories of visiting our extended family in Abingdon, including Fred, Elaine and Dan Smith, and Roger, Mary Lou, Chris and Amy Larsen.

Dan and Family, Our hearts go out to you because your Mom was a special friend and dear lady. She was my (Marilyn) friend from the time we were in school. We had so many laughs and tears together. I missed her so badly when we moved away from Illinois. She and Fred came to visit us in Wisconsin and had such a good time with them. They are in Heaven now together.

Dan,
I’m so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. For a few years in the early 1960s, we lived on the Mound Farm. I was in Girl Scouts during those years and could always count on your mom to buy cookies and calendars and to renew her Abingdon Argus subscription when I sold them in a contest to win a watch. Though I haven’t seen her for more than 55 years, the smile in her photo is the same kind one that greeted me when I knocked on her door back then. Kindness of that sort matters and is remembered decades later. I’m thankful your mom was there to brighten my days and support my endeavors back then. May God bless your family. I know she’ll be missed.
